Land Rover Cars – History, Etcetera
Land Rover is a car brand that is owned by British multinational car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, which in turn is owned by the Tata Motors of India. The brand was first used in 1948 and specializes in four-wheel-drive vehicles. In fact, the name was originally used by the Rover Company for the series of vehicles of this brand launched back in 1948. As a company, Land Rover has existed since 1978.
The designs of most of the initial Land Rover cars were inspired by Jeep.
Land Rover Cars – Historic and Current Models
The historic models from the company’s stable include vehicles from Series I, II, IIA, and III; these were the original 4×4. The historic Range Rover Classic included the original Range Rover that was produced from 1970 to 1996.
Some of the current models from the company include Defender, Freelander 2, Discovery 4, Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover.
Out of the above current models, the Freelander 2 and Evoque are small off-road 4×4. Discovery Sport is the medium-size off-road 4×4, and the remaining are large off-road 4×4 vehicles.
Concept Vehicles from Land Rover
Some of the concept vehicles from the company include Range Stormer that was unveiled back in 2004 at the North American International Auto Show. In 2008, the company unveiled Land Rover LRX at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The DC100 and Discovery Vision Concept were introduced in 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show and 2014, respectively.
The company is also into production of electric vehicles. Year 2013 saw introduction of Leopard 1 at the 83rd Geneva Motor Show. It was based on all-terrain electric Defender and produced zero emissions, with capabilities to produce 70kW and 330Nm of torque and range of 80 kilometers. In low speed off-road use, the electric vehicle can last for up to eight hours before recharging.
