Greet the Handsome New 2016 BMW X1
Auto & Generals brings you some of the top reviews of top-notch luxury cars from around the world. Be it Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Ford, or any other automaker, we cover them all. We also keep our readers well informed about the latest happenings in the world of automobiles – including the auto shows, recalls, new launches, concepts, and everything else. We have been discussing about the Audis and BMWs lately, and here’s one handsome boy from the home of BMW – the 2016 BMW X1. Let’s know more about this handsome not-so-little car!
The X1 carries the DNA of BMW perfectly – the kidney grilles, the curves, headlights, taillights, etc. It’s instantly recognizable as a BMW product. The X1 can be called more of a tall hatchback than a small SUV. It has a nice ground clearance, sporty suspension, precise & responsive steering, and a zippy engine. Inside is spacious and quiet. It is available in only one trim, so one can say that 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. Let’s get a bit more near and into this machine!
Exterior, Interior, and Features
The car looks handsome, but not as great to grab all the eyeballs. Of course there are better looking machines around. The X1 has an overall length of nearly 175 inches, width of 71.7 inches, and stands 63.5 inches tall with a wheelbase of 105.1 inches.
As said, it carries all usual BMW traits. Some of the exterior features include power heated side mirrors with manual folding, fixed rear window with fixed interval wiper and defroster, speed-sensitive rain-detecting variable intermittent wipers with heated jets, lip spoiler, power liftgate rear cargo access, roof rack rails only, and fully automatic aero-composite halogen daytime running headlamps with delay-off.
Again, inside is quiet and spacious. Some of the internal features include front bucket seats, power front seats with driver seat memory, 8-way driver seat, 8-way passenger seat, 40-20-40 folding rear seat, proximity key for push button start only, remote keyless entry with integrated key transmitter, illuminated entry, illuminated ignition switch and panic button, cruise control with steering-mounted controls, dual-zone front automatic air conditioning, HVAC including the underseat ducts and console ducts, fade-to-off interior lighting, memory settings for door mirrors, FOB controls for trunk and windows, engine immobilizer, and three 12v dc power outlets.
Entertainment and Infotainment
On a long ride, you obviously would not like to get bored or lost. Don’t worry, you won’t get either. The entertainment and infotainment department in BMW X1 is loaded and won’t let you feel down or lost anytime.
In your X1, entertain yourself with Radio that has AM/FM with single CD player. The radio comes with seek-scan, MP3 player, clock, speed-compensated volume control, auxiliary audio input jack, steering-mounted controls, radio data system, and external memory control. Additionally, you get an in-dash CD player with Hi-Fi sound system, satellite radio preparation, 180w regular amplifier, audio theft deterrent, wireless streaming, Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity, and 1 LCD monitor in the front.
The dashboard has gauges for speedometer, odometer, tachometer, trip odometer, trip computer, systems monitor, and outside temperature.
Engine and Performance
The 2016 BMW X1 has a spirited engine that can really accelerate when pushed. The only trim of X1 comes with xDrive. The X1, or xDrive28i carries a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine under its hood, producing 228 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1,250 rpm. All-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting mode are standard.
It can reach from 0 mph to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and can attain top speed of 129 mph.
You don’t expect much from an SUV when it comes to fuel economy, but X1 is fairly okay. A 16.1 gallon tank gives it a highway cruising range of over 500 miles. The highway fuel economy comes out to be 32 mpg and city fuel economy scores 22 mpg.
Safety is always a priority for any top-notch automaker and BMW is no exception. The 2016 X1 gets all the standard safety features that you get in cars of this segment.
Some worth mentioning here are 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-wheel ABS, front & rear vented discs, brake assist, hill descent control, hill hold control, electric parking brake, heated side mirrors, fully automatic aero-composite halogen daytime running headlamps with delay-off, Dsc-X Electronic Stability Control (ESC) And Roll Stability Control (RSC), ABS and Driveline Traction Control, side impact beams, dual-stage driver & passenger seat-mounted side airbags, BMW Assist eCall Emergency S.O.S., dual-stage driver & passenger front airbags, curtain 1st and 2nd row airbags, airbag occupancy sensor, and driver & passenger knee airbag. Optional safety feature includes a driver assistance package.
Price and Availability
The BMW X1 or the xDrive28i has a base price of $35,795. This price does not include any optional package. There is one and only one trim available of X1.
Though the deliveries have been on its way for quite long now, you may need to call your nearest BMW dealership to check the availability of 2016 BMW X1.
The 2016 BMW X1 is priced really nicely. It isn’t expensive for what all that is included in the car. Fetching interior trim and highly versatile back seat make the X1 more desirable than any other car in this segment. In case you are a fan of BMW cars (or getting a nice value for your old BMW) and wish to go for X1, it is highly recommended. For all that is delivered by the X1, it is a nice car.
However, if you wish to look at some of the alternatives in small luxury crossover segment, some of the considerable options can be Mercedes-Benz GLA-class, Audi Q3, Lexus NX, Lincoln MKC, and Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.
All these alternatives lie in almost same price bracket as the BMW X1.
