Let’s see what it has outside and inside.

BMW X6

Overview

The 2016 BMW X6 is loud, agile, and stylish. Sharp handling and pretty inside make the car lovable. It is available in three trims, with base being a real-wheel drive 8-speed automatic fitted with a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine producing 300 bhp. X6’s fastback design limits the rear-seat room and also the cargo space. With five distinct driving modes and air suspension availability, the drive of X6 is as smooth as it can get. There aren’t all praises for the X6, though. The rear visibility is poor at rear. Also, some people may find the outside a little strange, may be because of the fastback design. Anyhow, let’s get to know more about the 2016 BMW X6.

Internal and External Features

Let’s talk about the dimensions first. The X6 weighs 4630 lbs and can accommodate 5 decently-sized people easily. It has a length of 192 inches, width of 78.1 inches, wheelbase of 115.5 inches, and stands 66.5 inches tall.

The outside, as mentioned above, may be a little strange for some people, but not for us. Some people may even find it differently attractive. The fastback design contributes to the agility and acceleration of the vehicle, in some sense. Inside is quite pretty and would straightaway touch your mind and heart with luxury. The only thing you may not like inside can be the shift lever. Anyhow, we leave it on you to decide. Let’s check out some of the external and internal features in 2016 BMW X6.

The exterior gets all the standard features that you find in other BMW X-series cars. These include express open/close sliding and tilting glass 1st row sunroof with sunshade, power heated auto-dimming side mirrors with power folding, deep tinted glass, speed-sensitive rain-detecting variable intermittent wipers with heated jets, fully automatic projector beam high intensity low/high beam daytime running auto-leveling directionally adaptive headlamps with delay-off, front fog lamps, cornering lights, perimeter/approach lights, and LED brakelights. So, in short, there is nothing extra or new you’ll find in the X6 when it comes to comparison with the lower models.

The inside won’t disappoint you at all. In fact, it may pep you up, for it is very pretty and luxurious. It has everything you can ask for comfort and utility. Some worth-mentioning internal features include power front seats, bucket front seats, heated front seats, 40-20-40 folding split-bench rear seat, power tilt/telescoping steering column, BMW Online Full Service Internet Access, sport leather steering wheel with auto tilt-away, front & rear cupholders, front & rear cigar lighter(s) with ashtray, proximity key for push button start only, remote keyless entry with integrated key transmitter, 4 door curb/courtesy, illuminated entry and panic button, remote releases for trunk, garage door transmitter, cruise control, dual-zone front automatic air conditioning with steering wheel controls, and HVAC included with underseat ducts, residual heat recirculation and console ducts.

In addition to the above, you get illuminated locking glove box, day-night auto-dimming rearview mirror, driver & passenger visor vanity mirrors with driver & passenger illumination, front & rear map lights, fade-to-off interior lighting, locking cargo area concealed storage, cargo space lights, and memory settings for door mirrors, steering wheel and head restraints.

Furthermore, you get FOB controls for trunk, windows and sunroof. There is also added advantage of tracker system, smart device integration, navigation system, power anti-whiplash adjustable front head restraints and fixed rear head restraints, front center armrest and rear center armrest with storage, lumbar support, perimeter alarm, engine immobilizer, and five 12V DC power outlets.

Now, that’s a lot!

Entertainment and Infotainment

Standard gauges include speedometer, odometer, tachometer, oil temperature, trip odometer, trip computer, systems monitor, outside temperature, and analog display. For entertainment, you get a Radio with AM/FM stereo that includes seek-scan, in-dash mounted single CD, MP3 player, clock, speed-compensated volume control, auxiliary audio input jack, steering-mounted controls, voice activation, radio data system, Weatherband, DVD-Audio, external memory control and 20 GB internal memory. Furthermore, it includes graphic equalizer, audio theft deterrent, wireless streaming, Hi-Fi sound system, Satellite Radio Preparation, Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity, 1 LCD monitor, and real-time traffic display.

Well, we must say that there is nothing much added by the automaker in entertainment and infotainment section. You’ll get most of the aforementioned features in the lower BMW X-series models too.

Engine and Performance

The 2016 BMW X6 is available in three trims, with base trim fitted with a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine producing 300 bhp at 5,800 rpm and maximum torque of 300 lb-ft at 1,300 rpm. It gets rear-wheel drive with 8-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting mode.

The buyers have an option of wheel drive here. The base trim can also be ordered with all-wheel drive. The higher trim features a 4.4-liter V8 engine churning 445 hp; this comes with all-wheel drive.

The X6 reaches from 0 mph to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and can achieve top speed of 127 mph.

Fuel Economy

The 2016 BMW X6 has an approximate fuel tank capacity of 22.4 gallons, giving it a highway cruising range of over 550 miles. The city fuel economy is estimated to be 18 mpg and highway fuel economy is estimated to be 25 mpg.

Safety Features

Again, the BMW X6 features all the standard safety features that other BMWs get. Some of the standard safety features are 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-wheel ABS, front & rear vented discs, brake assist, hill hold control, electric parking brake, fully automatic projector beam high intensity low/high beam daytime running auto-leveling directionally adaptive headlamps with delay-off, front fog lamps, Dsc-X Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Roll Stability Control (RSC), and ABS along with Driveline Traction Control.

Additional safety is provided by side impact beams, dual-stage driver & passenger seat-mounted side airbags, BMW Assist eCall Emergency S.O.S., front and rear parking sensors, tire-specific low tire pressure warning, dual-stage driver & passenger front airbags, curtain 1st & 2nd row airbags, and airbag occupancy sensor.

Some of the optional features/packages are Driver Assistance Package, Lighting Package, Rear View Camera, and Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection.

Price and Availability

As mentioned above, the 2016 BMW X6 is available in 3 trims with different engine and wheel drive options. The X6 has a base price of $61,595 which goes up to $76,295 for higher trims.

Production and deliveries are on its way and you’ll need to call your nearest BMW dealership to confirm availability of trim you wish to check out.

Final Verdict

The 2016 BMW X6 is priced really nicely and is a great value for money. If you wish to have greater cargo space for more utility, X6 is not the right car for you, because its cargo space is considerably reduced due to its fastback design. Furthermore, exceptionally taller people may have problem finding adequate headroom when occupying rear seats. Otherwise, the X6 is overall a great package demonstrating raucous power and surprising agility. We at Auto & Generals feel that X6 is a nice car and therefore recommend it.

However, if you also wish to check out other options in the mid-size luxury crossover segment, you can consider Porsche Cayenne, Maserati Levante, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Mercedes-Benz GLE-class, and Infiniti QX70.

Hope you liked our review of 2016 BMW X6. Do share it with other luxury car lovers. Take care and drive safe.
